Consider these.....
Have you ever been ‘talked at’ instead of had someone ‘talk with’ you in a real life conversation? It doesn’t feel good to have someone talk AT you.
It leaves you feeling like you might as well not have been there at all.
Blogs can be like that and in this post we explore the power of asking questions on your blog and I share 7 types of questions you can ask to increase reader engagement.

What happens when you make it public that your business is looking for software?
CASE STUDY
I recently came across one of those “I’m looking for…any suggestions?” inquiries from a solopreneur considering CRM software. I’ve pasted below selective parts of the originating inquiry and then in my following analysis I’ve included some handpicked comments that were given in response. I believe you’ll agree that the post itself and replies are quite illustrative.
The originating post (partial…

I remember a recent conversation I had with a friend. It went something like this:
FRIEND: My father is working for a different company now
ME: I thought your father was retired?
FRIEND: He is - this is his fourth retirement.
Hmm...
Retirement sure isn't what it used to be. According to psychiatrist Gene Cohen (2006), "Some people never retire in the classic sense; they continue writing or teaching or coaching or performing until the end of their lives. And not because th…

There are many new changes brewing in the mortgage industry and as always, I’ll strive to keep you in the loop as they unfold from week to week throughout the year. At the core of this all is the intent to give you a quick-grab summary of rates, rate indicators and projections as well as interesting product changes and news tidbits: the motive behind this is to keep you informed and at the top of your game to best serve your clients and give you a competitive edge in the ‘new economy’ of 2010 an…

Hello and Good morning!
It goes without saying that the Canadian Real Estate market has gone through some significant changes in recent times. We've seen the markets tumble and start to regain; Mortgage lending programs vaporize along with some lenders as well;
Rent-to-Own and Agreement for Sale contracts get dusted off by lawyers across Alberta as Investors and purchasers find a way to 'make things work' (These were most popula…

I spent the better part of the weekend watching Wes Anderson films with my kids. Mr. Anderson has written films about an unrequited school boy crush, adventures by sea and rail, and a family who has discovered their humility. What would these seemingly unrelated tales have in common...well written characters. You see, Wes Anderson's films are not so much about the story but the people these stories envelope.
As an HR Consultant, I preach the develop of organizational culture and employee engage…

Governor Schwarzenegger and the members of the California State Legislature have come under fire recently for reducing the work week of state employees. California residents throughout the state are angry over what has been happening in Sacramento and insist that cutting the state workers' pay and hours is not the way to save money. The truth is that California's debt is severe and cutting two days per month out of every state worker's schedule is only a drop in the bucket of the money that the…

When people in the church talk about ministry to the nursing care community I want them to think "The Sharing Org". I've been a missionary to the nursing care community since 2003 and I finally have enough experience to benefit the local church through encouragement, education, and support. I've just increase my web presence and made it very easy for anyone with web access to learn about the work that I do. My passion is to encourage, educate, and suipport the local church as they minister to pe…

Giving a speech is an opportunity for you to get an audience to see their world differently. It's your chance to influence the way they think and get them to take action. These points are designed to help you be a more powerful and confident speaker.
1. Take a stand.
Make a provocative statement or ask challenging questions. Get their attention by presenting a strong point of view, thoughtful analysis, perspective and judgment. If it's the same old, same old they've heard before you'll lose th…

Keith recently asked for input about developing questions to see if organizations we're collaborative.
These are things I pulled from memory that I have used in the past that directly test the environment of collaboration but also address basic mood in a group about sharing and fears around sharing.
The asterisks are just some background thoughts to the questions themselves.
1. Have you/your team/your boss admitted either a major mistake, bad judgment or missed opportunity in the last six mon…

I hear a lot of talk about life/work balance and I think most of it is nonsense.
The word balance for me implies equal. I prefer the word harmony, therefore life/work harmony.
My personal and business life are not equal or in balance and are never likely to be.
They are in harmony with one another, that is, they work together like a symphony, two sides of the same coin
Here are my 11 laws of life/work harmony. I trust they will help you live a more harmonious life.
1. The Law of H…

Back when I was studying Jazz Guitar at the University of North Texas, I had an opportunity to take a private guitar lesson from Tim Miller. Although there were some incredible guitarists at UNT at that time, Tim blew everyone out of the water.
As you can imagine, I couldn’t wait to sit down with him and find out what goes into his secret sauce. What was it that made him so much better at the guitar than all the rest of us? When the day arrived, I sat down and asked Tim “what is the one thing y…

When I wrote this, it was snowing outside, thanks to the courtesy of winter storm Albert coming up the East coast. My town was fortunate to only get 12 to 16 inches. Some other areas of the state got over 24 inches. Due to my
injury this past summer, I’m still recovering and medically forbidden from all strong twisting motions that may cause me to re-inju…
